Dogs for Adoption by the Public

U.S. Military Public & Other Adoptions:

This program is on going at every military installation with military working dogs, all branches of the service.

Due to the overwhelming response and emails for information about the adoption process and for adoption applications, and to serve interested individuals faster, we have upgraded our system to automatically send the user an official application.

To request an official application for a military working dog adoption, please use our form via the following page.

The form will produce the actual application which is provided by the Military Working Dog Center. This form should be printed and then mailed (or faxed) to the official address on the form. All correspondence and questions regarding adoptions by the the public should be directed to their office.

In addition, the following is an official message from the Military Working Dog Center at Lackland, AFB, Texas:

“Thank you for your interest in our program. This program is on going at every military installation with military working dogs, all branches of the service. I am at program level of the adoption process. The training starts at Lackland and then the dogs are sent operational. Once they have completed their service they “can be retired”. At Lackland I do have some of the younger dogs, which have failed to complete training. The adoption law has a priority of adoption. 1st to Law enforcement agencies, 2nd to prior handlers, and the to the public. Please complete the application and return it to me. Contact me about the middle of each month to see if we have any dogs you might be interested in. An appointment will be scheduled for you to meet the dog and if you like them arrangements will be made for you to take them home. You will responsible for collars, leashes, crates, and shipment. The dogs are free of charge. Hope to here from you soon."

Please remember, the Military Working Dog Foundation is not a government agency, but rather a 501c3 non-profit organization. Part of our mission is to provide informational assistance in order for these dogs which become availabe, can be adopted to worthy homes. We have no say whatsoever in who receives a dog via the U.S. Military's Working Dog Adoption program.
